Hello from a very rainy London! As the winter chill settles in, there’s something incredibly comforting about cosying up at home with a steaming cup of tea and reflecting on a recent adventure. One such escapade was my rejuvenating weekend at The South Lodge in Horsham, a retreat that combines luxury, sustainability and tranquillity nestled in the picturesque English countryside. If you’re dreaming of a peaceful getaway to escape the hustle and bustle of city life, this one’s for you.
Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed and treated to lunch at the restaurant. Paired with some lovely drinks, it was the perfect start to our weekend.
Afterward, we were escorted to The Reeds. The lodge was nothing short of spectacular—its cosy yet luxurious ambiance immediately set the tone for a relaxing stay. Names inspired by the flora and fauna found in the surrounding area, each lodge celebrates the local environment, and ours—charmingly named Dragonfly, was no exception. With welcome drinks in hand, we settled into the lounge, catching up on some TV and soaking in the calm. Later, we took a leisurely stroll around the open grounds, basking in the stunning views of the South Downs countryside.
As evening approached, we changed into our swimwear and headed to the spa. The wild pool offered a refreshing cold dip, while the thermal hot pool was pure bliss. Could spend hours in it, honestly. With panoramic views of the natural landscape, it felt like a slice of paradise.
Returning to the lodge, we were greeted with chilled champagne as we got ready for dinner. Dinner was at The Botanica, a dairy-free restaurant with a focus on sustainability and zero waste. The food was flavourful, creative and beautifully presented, offering a dining experience as nourishing for the soul as it was for the body. It was definitely a wholesome day!
The next morning, the breakfast hamper was delivered straight to our lodge. Packed with delicious selections, it was the perfect way to ease into a lazy day.
I couldn’t resist indulging in a long soak in the copper bathtub on our private sun deck. Surrounded by the crisp winter air and serene lakeside views, it was an experience of pure rejuvenation.
Reluctantly, we packed our bags and checked out in the late afternoon, making the short journey back to London feeling utterly refreshed.
