I needed this weekend trip after a really hectic work week and boy oh boy was it good for the soul! Our exciting trip began bright and early at 8 am, departing from the coach station in Victoria London. We enjoyed a comfortable ride through the picturesque English countryside. The rolling hills and quaint villages along the way provided a scenic backdrop.
First Stop: Stonehenge
The world-famous Stonehenge, a must-see destination for any history enthusiast. Thanks to Get Your Guide, we skipped the long ticket lines and headed straight to the site.
We chose to take a leisurely 20-25 minute walk to the stones, immersing ourselves in the serene landscape. If you prefer, there’s also a shuttle option to save time. As we approached Stonehenge, the view was awe-inspiring. Standing before these ancient stones, we stared at their size and the mystery surrounding their construction.
Exploring Stonehenge from every angle made us appreciate its beauty and enigmatic allure. After our visit, we enjoyed a quick coffee break at a café before we headed back to the coach.
Next Stop: Bath
Next on our itinerary was the charming city of Bath, known for its elegant Georgian architecture and Roman heritage. The drive into Bath was breath-taking, with panoramic views of the rolling hills with pretty houses and the River Avon.
Once we arrived, our guide from Evans Evans Tour (arranged through Get Your Guide), led us on an insightful walking tour. We visited iconic landmarks such as Pulteney Bridge, Bath Abbey, and the Roman Baths. Our guide also pointed out filming locations from the popular Netflix series Bridgerton, which was my favourite part of the tour.
A Quick pit stop: Prior Park Gardens
While in Bath, we decided to venture off the beaten path and take a cab to Prior Park. This decision led us to one of Bath's hidden gems – the Palladian Bridge. The park's entry fee was £10 per person, and the 20-minute hike down to the bridge was well worth the effort. Surrounded by lush greenery and tranquil waters, the Palladian Bridge was a highlight of our trip. We spent time taking photos and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere before heading back to the city centre.
After returning to the city centre, we visited Toppings & Co. bookshop, a must-visit for book lovers. The store’s cozy ambiance and extensive collection of books made me spend a little more time than needed.
No visit to Bath is complete without sampling some local treats, so we headed to Sunny and Sunshine for a delicious ice cream and sweet buns from Sally Lunn's Historic eating house.
